An intensive course focusing on a range of woodworking and joinery skills leading to a Level 2 City and Guilds Diploma in Bench Joinery (C&G 6706-26)
This City & Guilds qualification course is aimed at people wishing to learn the essential skills in carpentry and joinery in order to progress through an apprenticeship or self-direction and work towards becoming a master craftsman.
This bench joinery course can also be taken as the first element of our boatbuilding course. No previous experience of woodworking is necessary.
Practical from day one, it will introduce you to different types of wood, their properties and their uses. You will develop your hand tool skills by learning basic marking out and joinery techniques; care and use of hand and power tools with particular emphasis on sharpening and setting up; set up and operation of workshop machinery; learning the principles of building, information, communication, health, safety and welfare in construction.

During this intensive 12-week course you will manufacture the following bench joinery products in a variety of woods including mahogany, beech and teak:

- Half-glazed door
- Bench hook
- Spirit level
- Grating
- Joiners attache case
- Staircase
