The IBTC will be throwing open its doors on the weekend of 14th - 15th September in conjunction with the 2019 Heritage Open Days event.
If you have ever wondered what is involved in building or repairing a boat then come and take a look at our joinery workshop and boat shed which has a wide range of wooden boats from 9 to 40 ft in various stages of build and repair.
The International Boatbuilding Training College sits on the northern shore of Lake Lothing, the tidal reach of the River Waveney, depicted in Ted Frost’s book “From Tree To Sea”, which chronicles the building of a wooden steam fishing boat.
Come and see first hand how wooden boats are built. Try your hand at a number of boat building activities such as roving, caulking and knot work. Watch demonstrations of steam bending, planking and the endangered skill of oar and spar making.
Talk to our instructors and students to find out more about our courses and what it is like to learn joinery and boat building at the IBTC.
