If you want to experience as much as possible in an allotted time, the IBTC is the right choice for you.
I was at the University of Montana finishing my degree preparing for a 'professional life.' If you look at my papers spanning my last two years you would see very few notes and drawings of boats all along the margins. After University I decided to follow my instincts and pursue a life surrounded by wooden boats. In my work there is not a minute that passes that is not enjoyed to the fullest.
I chose the IBTC for many reasons. I found that their facilities are really unmatched by any other school in the world. Also, the range of projects and quantity of boats make for an experience like no other. I had looked at many schools all over the world. I wanted an opportunity to work on larger boats; the College has at least 10 larger boats. I wanted to study all aspects of building boats; the College has a project to demonstrate all types of boat construction, both modern and traditional.
The College gave me some solid ground for my education in wooden boats. Understanding the principles has allowed me to expand my knowledge through reading, study, and experience.
I think the IBTC is capable to providing an experience rivaled by no other. You must however, be motivated. If you want to experience as much as possible in an allotted time, the IBTC is the right choice for you.
I returned home after my time in England (Great Lakes, USA), I am currently working full time on wooden boats, which is pretty cool. I have four projects on the go right now. Two small motorboats in for restoration, A 32' 1921 sailboat which I have restored from the keel up, and a new build, a 22' gas/electric picnic launch which I am building to my own design.
